Butyl acetate is a colorless liquid with a fruity odor; well soluble in organic solvents, soluble in water to a limited extent. Easily hydrolyzed in the presence of acids and alkalis.
Butyl acetate is used as:
— solvent perchlorovinyl, polyacrylic and other paints and varnishes;
— a solvent for nitro-, ethyl- and acetyl cellulose, chlorinated rubber, natural and synthetic resins, vegetable oils, fats;
— extractant of aromatic substances;
— a component of fruit essences and perfume compositions.
